Public Service Announcement — New Pet Food Recall

Sorry regular readers for going off topic, but something that’s happened in the last couple of days to one of our Siberian Huskies necessitates this public service announcement. More of our regularly scheduled ranting will return later today.

Over the past couple of days, Icy, one of Rant and Mrs. Rant’s Siberian Huskies has become ill with symptoms identical to those of melamine poisoning. In surfing the web for information about Icy’s illness, Mrs. Rant found this recall notice.

If you own a dog or cat and use any Sensible Choice pet foods, check the Royal Canin recall notice to see if the pet food you use is affected by Royal Canin’s recall. If it is, STOP USING THE PET FOOD IMMEDIATELY! and find an alternate, safe choice.

We’re hoping that Icy will recover. But, to be honest, things are pretty dicey right now.

Rant,
So sorry to hear about your dog. I hope Icy recovers. Here is a lot more info about recalled pet food for your pet-loving fans. Please see this web site (referred to me by a Veterinarian friend): http://itchmo.com/recalls.html.

Also search the FDA pet foods recalls website:

MTS,
Thanks for the links. I’m sure other pet owners will appreciate them, too.

I hope Icy is OK. Please keep us posted.

If I am guessing correctly, Royal Canin is a prescription pet food? Or at least a high quality one. One of my cats needs that sort of thing, and we are using California Natural, which makes dog food too. Their foods are prepared in separate plants here in the US and as a result of the recall, they are buying their own plant so they can control the quality of the food even further. If anyone needs special diet food for their pets, I highly recommend them. Just google California Natural if you’d like more info.

Debby,

Some of the Royal Canin foods are prescription foods, but the one we’ve used is just the Sensible Choice Lamb and Rice formula. We’re going to look into the California Natural products and probably switch to them. Thanks for the tip!
