After Friday’s stunning time trial victory Garmin’s Dave Zabriskie wanted nothing more yesterday than to hang on to the lead coming into today’s final Kansas City crits. He did just that as Fancesco Chicchi from Lquigas won the stage. Here are the official GC standings as of stage 6

Today’s final ToM stage 7 will find the peloton circuiting Kansas City in a technically difficult and sometimes hilly criterium. With a start and finish at the  Crown Center  a tough day in the saddle will await the eventual winner.

As has been the case all week you can view the ToM on line at the Tour Tracker section of the official web site, OR you can go directly to universalsports.com.

Earlier in the week The Kansas City Star did an interview with OUCH’s Floyd Landis who says he is getting his life back by merely being on his bike:

“I wouldn’t wish what I’ve been through on anybody, it’s not easy being accused of something you didn’t do and having it out there for the world to see.

“I didn’t do it, and I’ll never stop saying that. But I’m not asking for sympathy. I’m not trying to make a statement or anything by coming back, I just want to race. That’s when I’m happiest in life — when I’m on my bike.”

Hey Rant, if I had known you were going to be there we could have sat down and had that beer we’ve talked about before. I managed to catch stages 1, 2 and 3. And I’m pretty sure that I’m probably just outside the frame on your 15th pic with Pellizotti checking his bike.

Congratulations to Dave Z. for his win. If more private funding isn’t found for next year’s race, he might be the winner of the final edition?

As an aside, this might help bolster sales of DZ Nuts. Good product btw….

Jeff,
Thanks for posting the link. I’m sure hoping that the organizers find another title sponsor, or that the Tourism Board can overcome the governor’s objections and still contribute to the cause. It would be a shame to see the race wither away for lack of funding.
Then again, if the organizers wanted to syndicate sponsorship, ala a certain fund from a few years ago, I’d be happy to chip in to keep the race alive.
Great that DZ finally has a stage race on his list of palmares. I’m guessing it will definitely help bolster sales of his product. Especially after he puts up the video saying he couldn’t have won without DZ Nuts. 😉

Ken,
Just saw your comment. Too bad we didn’t quite catch up there. Next year. (If there is a next year.) Or maybe sooner, if our paths cross along the way.
