Do we really need a fictionalized version of 9/11?

Given that today is the 5th anniversary of one of the most heinous crimes ever committed on American soil, I’m wondering: Do we really need a fictionalized account of how we got there called “The Path to 9/11”?

I didn’t watch the show last night, and I don’t plan on watching it tonight, either. After all, there’s plenty of drama in the true story. And the problem with presenting such a movie (at least in my mind) is that there’s a large number of people who won’t know where the true story leaves off and the fictionalized version begins. In presenting such a story, the ABC network may lead people to believe that certain events that didn’t really happen, or certain decisions that didn’t really get made led directly or indirectly to the terrorist attacks.

Revisionist story-telling doesn’t do anything to help the American people or anyone else understand how these awful events came to pass, and it doesn’t do anything to help us figure out how best to respond to those who would destroy us. Learning from our real history and real events, on the other hand, could go a long way. After all, there’s an old saying: “Those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”
