Go Get `Em

in Floyd Landis

Lest anyone think I forgot, yesterday was the deadline for the lawyers on both sides of the Floyd Landis case to get their written arguments in to the Court of Arbitration for Sport panel who will decide the cyclist’s fate. A ruling isn’t expected until June. At this point it’s all over except for the deciding. This second round of arbitration has been quite the contrast to round one.

As you know, the first round was very public. This time, everything has happened quite quietly and in private, in keeping with the CAS’ rules. Unless someone leaks something to a willing journalist, we won’t be hearing much (if anything) for a couple of months.

So what should a cyclist do in order to “celebrate” the end of this long, winding, torturous battle? Go biking, of course! And where, you might ask? At a National Ultra Endurance mountain bike race in Cohutta, Tennessee. The race started about two hours ago, so at this point, Floyd and his fellow racers should be well into the throes of agony known only to those who will push their limits in an off-road race. Having been there and done that (though not for 100 miles), I can tell you that it is an exquisite form of ecstatic suffering. Whirling dervishes have nothing on this.

Allez Floyd, and everyone else who’s suffering and slogging through 100 miles of off-road rambling and racing. Go get `em!
