Conflicting reports continue on Floyd Landis’ comeback status. At Redlands, mechanicals were listed as one reason he withdrew, but “illness” was also hinted at by OUCH.
The Press Telegram yesterday added to the confusion by noting that Floyd was supposed to be at the Long Beach Bicycle Festival crits, but had to withdraw due to a lingering injury sustained in Mexico.
Floyd’s own teammate John Murphy said Floyd was absent due to “sponsor obligations”:
Murphy rides for a team called OUCH. He was supposed to have with him on the course teammate Floyd Landis – the 2006 Tour De France winner who was stripped of that title for alleged doping – but Murphy said Landis couldn’t make it because of sponsorship duties.
But wait:
Earlier in the day, race director Mark Bixby said he was under the impression Landis would not race because he had sustained an injury in last month’s Vuelta Mexico.
So…what is it, illness, injury, or “sponsor obligations”?
In the meantime Floyd tweeted this weekend that he planned on competing at the Dana Point Grand Prix the weekend of April 25, 26th. As far as we know he will also compete with OUCH at Battenkill the week before. Stay tuned…
Nice to see Floyd looking so happy signing autographs for OUCH at the Redlands Classic.
In other news, is the AFLD on a witch hunt? LA might think so, you decide.

Hey, that’s pretty good, I’m gonna go tweet that.

And just to add to the confusion the alleged Real floyd twitter account posted that he and (some of) the team would be at Dana Point Grand Prix, but the OUCH website schedule says they’re due to be in Georgia then.
Don’t worry, I’ll stay on the case, as no doubt this is just the tip of the iceberg and underneath we’ll find hookers and drugs and politicians and bribe money.
Oh, maybe I shouldn’t take that PR job with OUCH…
